Perfection

Thank you for your suggestions and support regarding Vivian's sleep schedule (or lack thereof). In general, things are getting better. She's getting hungrier, which may have been why she kept waking up -- we just weren't feeding her enough. So we've increased how much we're feeding her, and she's sleeping better. Although last night, she fussed and cried from 2 a.m. - 5:00 a.m. -- awesome!

But today, we took a bath, and I just looked at her big blue eyes, and realized that she is everything I've ever wanted. She's perfect. So what if she's a bit fussy?

She's perfect and beautiful and that's what babies do - prepare you for the dating years. Don't think she's gonna start sleeping through the night and then you will be able to. Oh, no, little one. This is only the beginning. :)

Sara,

When people ask me about my son's sleep schedule, (and beware...other parents LIE about their children 'sleeping through the night' I promise you!) I say, "I didn't become a parent so I could sleep. I've gotten enough before this in my life!"

I have found that even as my son has slept more and more through the night, I am just one of those people who once awake in the night, can't fall cack asleep easily. My husband can, lucky dog!

You'll get used to the sleep deprivation and the brain0drain associated with it.

So glad Viv is healthy and here.

I agree with Jane on parents not telling the whole truth about sleeping through the night. I would be surprised to hear a mom or dad of a young child that actually slept 8 hours without waking up.

I think it's the definition - whereas when they were newborns it required getting out of bed, a diaper change, a feeding, burping and rocking. Now (and this was as of about 4-5 months) when they wake up, you stumble out of bed, turn on their crib toy, give them a sip of water and everyone goes back to sleep.

I have slept 6+ hours straight only once since becoming pregnant. Am I tired a lot? Yes, but life is different now and I have learned to adjust. I don't mind, really. It's just part of my job as Mom.
